    Getting Started

    What Is Pocket Runway?

Pocket Runway is a pay-cycle budgeting app that helps you understand what is safe to spend between paychecks.

Instead of forcing your money into traditional monthly categories, Pocket Runway tracks your current runway: what this paycheck is covering, what is left after planned obligations, and how much you can safely spend per day until your next paycheck.

    Who Is Pocket Runway For?

Pocket Runway is built for people who think in paychecks, not months.

    It is especially useful for:

    • Freelancers
    • Gig workers
    • Hourly employees
    • Weekly or biweekly earners
    • Variable-income households
    • Anyone who wants a clearer answer to "Can I safely spend this today?"

It also works well for traditional salaried workers. It simply shines when income, bills, transfers, and spending do not fit neatly into a monthly budgeting system.

How Much Does Pocket Runway Cost?

    Pocket Runway offers three tiers:

    • Free — $0, forever. Includes the full pay-period engine, manual entry, runway dashboard, and core features.
    • Plus — $4/month. Adds CSV transaction import, Spend Trends, calendar forecasting, goal tracking, and more. Bank linking and auto-sync are coming soon.
    • Pro — $9/month. Coming soon. Adds custom categories, full data export, household mode, and investment tracking.

Every new account starts with a 34-day free trial of Plus — no card required. You are never charged unless you add a payment method and choose to subscribe, and you can cancel anytime from the Billing page.

    Is There a Free Version?

Yes. The Free tier gives you full access to the pay-period engine, manual transaction entry, runway tracking, and the core dashboard — no trial required and no credit card needed.

The Plus and Pro tiers unlock additional features like spending trends, calendar forecasting, and CSV import.

    Account and Billing

How Do I Create an Account?

You can sign up with an email and password, or use Sign in with Google for one-tap account creation. Both options are available on the sign-up screen.

How Do I Sign In with Google?

On the login or sign-up screen, tap Sign in with Google and follow the prompts. If an account already exists with the same email address, Google sign-in will connect to that existing account automatically.

How Do I Reset My Password?

On the login screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email address. You will receive a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive.

If you signed up using Google and have never set a password, use Sign in with Google instead.

How Do I Cancel My Subscription?

Go to Account Settings → Billing → Manage Billing. You will be taken to the Stripe Customer Portal where you can cancel your subscription. You will keep access until the end of your current billing period.

Will I Be Charged During the Trial?

No. The trial starts without a card, so there is nothing to charge. You are only ever billed if you add a payment method and subscribe. If you do subscribe during the trial, your first charge comes when the trial ends, and the Billing page shows the exact date and amount beforehand.

    Can I Get a Refund?

Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, but we may issue refunds for duplicate charges, technical errors, or other exceptional circumstances. See our Refund Policy for more details.

How Do I Change My Email or Password?

Email and password changes are handled from Account Settings. If you have lost access to your email or cannot access your account, contact support at support@pocketrunway.com.

How Do I Delete My Account?

Go to Account Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to confirm with your password. Deletion is immediate and permanent: all of your data is removed and any active subscription is canceled.

If you signed up with Google (no password) or cannot sign in, email support@pocketrunway.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and we will delete your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

    Using Pocket Runway

    How Is the App Organized?

Pocket Runway uses a bottom navigation bar with four sections:

    • Home — your current pay cycle dashboard, true balance, daily allowance, and spending summary
    • Plan — what this paycheck covers, plus upcoming bills, transfers, savings, and goals for future pay periods
    • Trends — spending patterns, category breakdowns, and a visual donut chart of where your money goes
    • Net Worth — tracked assets, debts, and your overall net worth snapshot

Tap the + button (center) to quickly log a transaction, add a bill, or record a refund from anywhere in the app.

    What Does "True Balance" Mean?

Your bank balance does not always tell the full story.

Pocket Runway's true balance is the amount left after accounting for this pay cycle's planned bills, transfers, savings, investments, upcoming plans, and logged spending. It is designed to answer: what do I actually have available right now?

    What Does "Daily Allowance" Mean?

Your daily allowance is the estimated amount you can spend per day until your next paycheck, based on your current setup. It updates automatically as you log spending, receive refunds, add bills, or move through the pay cycle.

Why Is My Daily Allowance Negative?

A negative daily allowance usually means one of the following:

    • Your planned bills, transfers, or savings exceed the money available this cycle
    • You spent more than the current pay cycle can safely support
    • A bill, transfer, or upcoming plan was entered with the wrong amount or date
    • Your starting balance or paycheck amount needs to be updated

Review your current pay cycle, planned obligations, and recent spending entries to find what changed.

    What Is the Plan Page?

The Plan page shows your forward-looking cash flow — recurring bills and transfers that are upcoming, plus any future-dated one-off expenses you have added. It is not a historical log; it is a planning view of what is coming.

From here you can mark obligations as initiated, review what upcoming pay cycles will need to cover, and manage recurring rules.

    What Is the Spending Chart?

The spending chart on the Home page shows how your daily allowance changes across the current pay period. It compares your planned runway against actual logged spending day by day, so you can see whether you are spending faster or slower than this pay period can support.

    What Is the Trends Page?

The Trends page shows your spending patterns over time. It includes a donut chart breaking down where your money went by category, plus historical cycle summaries. It is most useful after you have a few pay cycles of data logged.

What Is the Calendar Showing Me?

The Calendar shows upcoming pay cycles, planned income, bills, transfers, and projected runway. Future pay periods use a rolling average of your recent spending to estimate how much you are likely to spend — giving you a more realistic forecast than assuming you will spend nothing. The source of the estimate (rolling average vs. manual override) is shown on each future period.

    What Is Runway Reset?

Runway Reset is the pay-cycle transition flow. When a new pay cycle begins, Pocket Runway may ask you to:

    • Confirm your paycheck amount
    • Review leftover money from the prior cycle
    • Decide whether to roll that money forward, save it, invest it, pay down debt, or put it toward a goal

Runway Reset helps you start each new pay cycle with a clean, intentional plan.

What Does "What This Paycheck Is Covering" Mean?

This section shows the planned obligations assigned to your current paycheck. It may include bills, transfers, investments, savings allocations, upcoming plans, and other planned outflows. You can mark items as initiated to track what you have already handled.

Does Marking an Item as Initiated Change My Budget?

In most cases, marking an item as initiated is a visual tracker only. However, if a transfer is linked to a tracked asset or account, Pocket Runway may also update that linked balance and create a manual adjustment record.

Can I Add Multiple Income Sources?

Pocket Runway is currently built around one primary pay-cycle structure per account. You can add one-time income events — such as bonuses, refunds, or extra payments — and broader multiple-income support is on the roadmap.

    Can I Add Future Spending?

Yes. You can add spending or refunds with a future date. Future-dated manual entries remain editable from the Transactions page. This is useful for planning ahead or correcting an entry saved to the wrong date.

Where Can I Edit Spending or Refund Entries?

Go to Transactions → Actual Spending Log. This page shows manual spending and refund entries — current, past, and future-dated. From there you can edit or delete any entry.

How Do I Link My Bank Account?

Automatic bank linking via Plaid is coming soon to the Plus plan. In the meantime, you can import a CSV of transactions from your bank on the Import page, or add accounts and balances manually from Accounts.

All core features work without a linked bank account.

    Privacy and Security

    Is My Data Safe?

Pocket Runway is designed with privacy and security in mind. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Data is encrypted in transit. We do not sell your financial data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

    Do You Sell My Data?

No. Pocket Runway makes money from subscriptions, not by selling your data.

    Where Is My Data Stored?

Pocket Runway data is stored on secure servers in the United States. Backups may be retained for up to 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Does Pocket Runway Move My Money?

No. Pocket Runway helps you plan transfers, savings, investments, or debt payments — but any actual money movement must be completed through your bank, brokerage, or financial institution. The app does not initiate or process financial transactions.
